Xprint
Xprint is a powerful and reliable print management solution, that gives you transparent and
controlled access to distributed and shared print resources throughout your enterprise.
Rich functionality
Xprint supports a wide range of features typically found in proprietary
mainframe spoolers but not covered by the standard print functionality
of UNIX and Windows NT systems.
Xprint features include :
- Scheduling of print requests by criteria such as security, priority and time,
- Load balancing through automatic rerouting of print requests to the least-used printer,
- Optional Accounting of print jobs within an accounting database,
- Notification of printing problems by mail,
- Forms and font management,
- Automatic recovery from common problems such as "paper out",
- Network transparency through the use of topology-independent naming of printers,
- Comprehensive administration facilities enabling you to enable/disable
print queues, add new objects, modify printer status or definition,
and add/delete hosts.
Enterprise Printing
The rich functionality and the networking capability of
Xprint on AIX® and Windows NT servers, combined with the support of a
large range of clients such as UNIX systems, MS-Windows servers and GCOS
mainframes, and a large variety of printers, makes high-quality printing
services available throughout your enterprise.
Xprint for UNIX and Windows NT servers
The basic Xprint UNIX/Windows NT server software supports
an unlimited number of users, and can be extended with a networking component
allowing it to inter-operate with Xprint running on other servers in a
heterogeneous printing network. This allows the printing load to be balanced
across multiple systems, and individual printers to be accessed transparently
across the network. Xprint includes powerful graphical administration
tools allowing easy and efficient printer configuration and run-time management.
Wprint
for MS-Windows clients
Wprint is the MS-Windows software component allowing PC-based
end-users to print documents on Xprint-controlled printers. Wprint integrates
smoothly with the MS-Windows print spooler allowing Xprint printers to
be configured and accessed like any other printer within the MS-Windows
environment. Additionally, Wprint server software allows local PC-connected
printers to be accessed remotely by other Xprint users.
GCOS Support
With the addition of the optional GCOS printing interface,
DPF8 Software, GCOS print spoolers are integrated directly with the Xprint
environment, thus extending the full range of Xprint functionality to the GCOS environment.
Printer Support
Xprint supports an increasingly large variety of industry-standard printer types, including : HP Laserjet, PostScript,
Proprinter, EPSON-FX, EPSON-LQ, Diablo 630, Reno and NIPSON.
Printers may be connected using all standard types of attachment interfaces
such as : RS232, Centronics, Dataproducts, SCSI, Ethernet LAN and BSD.
Together with the PC-based Wprint,
the Xprint server software provides comprehensive print management
and tools for large servers, departmental servers, PCs and associated
printing devices. Xprint meets all your printing needs effectively,
whether in single-server installations or in large networks with
thousands of users. Xprint on Bull's servers running AIX® and Windows NT
platforms offers high performance, complete administration,
a wide range of supported clients and printers, and end-to-end
security of output delivery.
